GENERAL MANAGER POSITION
Farmer Direct Co-operative Ltd. is a locally owned and operated organic co-operative that markets oilseeds,
legumes and cereal crops on behalf of its farmer members. It is the only company of its kind in North America
to combine the three attributes of; farmer-ownership, domestic fair trade and organics, under one brand.
Farmer Direct Co-operative is looking for a General Manager who will lead the growth and development of its
team and the business. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, capable of inspiring teams, fostering an
environment of mutual respect and a focus on efficiency and execution within the operations.
The successful candidate will be a proven leader experienced in Western Canada’s cereal grain, oilseed and
specialty crop, procurement, processing and marketing industries. Experience in organic production, processing
and marketing would be an asset.
Financial performance and integrity of the organization, yearly budgets, and financial controls
Development of strategic initiatives, establishment and implementation of grain procurement, marketing
and production forecasts, plans, programs and services
Senior responsibility for overall legislative, regulatory and contractual compliance
Leadership, direction and development of the FDC employee team
Monitoring performance against budgeted targets in; sales, production, certifications, member services,
financial and administrative performance
Effective working relationships with industry partners including members, processors, retailers and
Champion the organization’s co-operative values and commitment to fair trade
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
A degree or professional designation in Agriculture, Marketing or Agronomics
At least 5 years of progressive experience in grain procurement, marketing and or processing in Western
Solid general knowledge and experience in crop production, marketing and finance
Organic and cooperative experience would be an asset
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Demonstrated leadership and communications skills
Self-starter, well organized, works well individually and in a team
Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects and people in a fast paced team environment
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Strong marketing, sales and customer relationship skills
